From September 8 to 10, Stéphane Pesce, scientific expert at INRAE, participated in the second edition of the Young People Engaged for the Ocean Congress (JEO2). The event brought together around 100 young people aged 18 to 28, alongside researchers and experts, to discuss the major challenges facing the ocean and develop concrete proposals for public action.
During the three-day congress, Stéphane Pesce contributed his scientific expertise to discussions on a wide range of issues, including climate change and marine heatwaves, coastal erosion, pollution, fisheries, aquaculture and the deep sea. His participation contributed to fostering dialogue between scientific knowledge, young citizens and public decision-makers.
Organized by Ifremer, Les Petits Débrouillards and the Académie du Climat, with partners including INRAE, JEO2 provides a unique opportunity for young people to engage directly with researchers and experts and to explore how scientific knowledge can contribute to addressing the environmental challenges facing the ocean.
This initiative also highlights the importance of dialogue between science and society, bringing together different perspectives and generations to reflect on the future of the ocean and the actions needed to protect it.
