Doctoral Candidates in the Spotlight

A highlight of the event was the series of presentations by the Doctoral Candidates, who walked the audience through the advances of their research, from first results to upcoming challenges. The discussions that followed—often lively and constructive—showed just how much the network values collaboration and shared expertise.

Shaping the Scientific and Strategic Direction

Throughout the meeting, committees worked in parallel to assess the project’s evolution. The Research Committee reviewed progress across work packages and prepared the ground for the upcoming Position Paper, while Dimitrios Karpouzas (UTH) and Mechthild Schmitt-Jansen (UFZ) offered two insightful lectures on the effects of contaminants on terrestrial and aquatic microbial communities.

The pivotal moment came during the Supervisory Board session, where all participants gathered to welcome Nathalie  Chèvre from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), as a new member of the consortium, and take stock of achievements and define adjustments for the months ahead.

Careers Round Table: Stories Across Sectors

Closing with Open Science

One of the most engaging moments was the round table on career paths, where four speakers—coming from both academia and industry—shared their personal journeys. Their stories painted a genuine picture of how research can evolve beyond the PhD, highlighting both the differences and the bridges between public and private sectors. For many fellows, this session opened new horizons and sparked valuable conversations.

The meeting concluded with a practical MasterClass on using Zenodo, guiding participants through FAIR data principles and encouraging the first steps toward open data sharing.
